In a Roman household, the father had absolute power: he could even condemn his wife, his children, and any of their servants and slaves to death if he felt they deserved it.

The Roman culture and civilization owed a great deal to those of ancient Greece, which preceded it. The Romans worshipped many of the same gods as the Greeks, they developed their alphabet from the Greek one, they fashioned their coins on Greek prototypes, and much of their art and theatre was based on Greek models.
